SGL 101
SGL | Erie/Crawford CountyTerrain & Scouting Report
A low-lying, wet woodland complex on the Erie/Crawford border. It is characterized by hydric soils, thick brush, and pocket wetlands, making it a premier destination for woodcock and waterfowl.
Recommended Tactics
The "Shrub-Swamp Push." Woodcock thrive in the moist, alder-heavy soils here. Use a dog to work the thickest brush edges near standing water. For deer, hunt the small "islands" of dry ground within the swamp, which big bucks use as extremely secure bedding sanctuaries. Work the switchgrass plantings and brushy bottomlands where PGC stocks birds throughout the season. This is a PGC pheasant stocking area. Focus on the maintained herbaceous openings and brushy field edges where birds are released throughout the season.
