SGL | Crawford CountyTerrain & Scouting Report
An expansive 5,603-acre tract consisting of level marsh and swamp habitat. It is one of the premier waterfowl and wetland hunting destinations in Western Pennsylvania.
Recommended Tactics
The "Oxbow" Method. Deer often bed at the very tips of the oxbows or bends in the marshy creeks where they are protected by water on three sides. Intercept them at the "mouth" of these U-shaped land features as they exit to feed on higher ground at dusk. Work the switchgrass plantings and brushy bottomlands where PGC stocks birds throughout the season. This is a PGC pheasant stocking area. Focus on the maintained herbaceous openings and brushy field edges where birds are released throughout the season. Prime waterfowl destination. Use the "Marsh-Edge" approach: set up decoys in the managed impoundments. Early season is best for Woodies; late season for Mallards.
