WMU 1B - Northwest Region
Other | Warren/Erie County
Primary Target Species
White-tailed Deer, Wild Turkey, Pheasant (Stocked), Waterfowl, Cottontail Rabbit, Canada Goose
Terrain & Scouting Report
This unit covers the agricultural and woodlot mosaic of Northwestern Pennsylvania. Unlike the "Big Woods," it features higher deer densities, smaller fragmented woodlots, and significant "edge" habitat.
Recommended Tactics
The "Fragmented Cover" approach. In 1B, deer are used to human activity but are experts at using small pockets of thick cover. Don't overlook small 5-10 acre thickets. Focus on the brushy creek bottoms that connect larger woodlots; these are the primary "highways" for deer moving through the agricultural landscape.
