Sasquatch (Bigfoot)

Cryptid | Season: CLOSED
Sasquatch (Bigfoot)

Field Reference: Sasquatch (Bigfoot)

Appearance & Identification

A massive, bipedal primate standing 8-15 feet tall and weighing over 500 lbs. Covered in thick, dark brown or reddish hair, though rare Pennsylvania sightings describe "White Bigfoots" with glowing red or yellow eyes. Notable for a cone-shaped head and a strong, unpleasant odor often compared to a "skunk rolled in dead animals".

Preferred Habitat

Remote, densely forested areas with heavy tree canopy for isolation. In Pennsylvania, high-activity zones include the Allegheny National Forest, Kinzua Bridge State Park, and the rugged terrain of the PA Wilds.

Seasonal Behavior

Extremely elusive and shy, often moving silently through thick underbrush. Known for vocalizations ranging from high-pitched screams to guttural whistles, as well as "wood knocking" and rock throwing to signal others or deter intruders.

Recommended Tactics

Focus on remote "highly suitable" habitats far from human development. Utilize trail cameras and audio recorders in damp bottomlands or near rocky outcroppings. Some researchers suggest leaving "gifts" of food like fruit or venison to encourage interaction.

Field Notes & Facts

Pennsylvania ranks third nationally in reported sightings, with over 1,300 documented encounters. Local legends in the Kinzua area are featured in the "Myths and Legends" exhibit at the Kinzua Bridge State Park Visitors Center.
